There are times when a quick face-lift is needed. Not surgery, but a quick brush up. Ever notice when someone notices you after you’ve had a shower, fixed your hair, maybe put on a little lip gloss, maybe a new shirt, a new dress? Well I call that a poof! A lift whereby you eradicate that dragon and out comes the beauty, no surgery needed. Soap anyone? Who knew? lol. The same thing could be done on a piece of furniture, in a room, even your wardrobe. A little paint. A new pull on a dresser. New levers on those old doors? Vavoom! You took a shower!
Maybe that console you want for $2465 is just a bit out of reach, but guess what? You can create the look for less. A gorgeous credenza I fell in love with from Organic Modernism was more than what I wanted to pay. So I went with an Ikea alternative using 2 Besta wall cabinets with doors at around $80 each and White Glass Top $20 and had them mounted on my wall as a floating cabinet. Cost of handyman to install $125. Modern pulls come from myknobs.com and they are item LEW-46017 at $7.13 each. A bargain I would say. I have to give credit to all this where credit is due, so I will share with you that this idea I got from Jen Ramos blog site madebygirl.blogspot.com where she used Ikea’s Akurum kitchen cabinets, which are not as deep as what I wanted, but certainly a great alternative for less depth. See link to her version which is fantastic.
There is a world of transformation that can be had with a little imagination and inexpensive items from Ikea or with what you already have in your home.
Maybe we could spruce up an old dresser with a little a little bling or paint a wood chair that you are bored with. I wanted to remodel our current bathroom but for now this isn’t in the cards or wallet, so I added an accent chevron wall, painted the ugly wood cabinets that existed white and again added some clean modern pulls that I found on sale under $3 a piece and painted the walls Benjamin Moore Midnight Paint a color which I love, as it has the slightest hint of blue. Gotta to love Blue! The ceiling is Decorators White. While it’s not my dream bathroom, I think that for now, it is having it’s “poof, you took a shower” moment.
And here below, is a fantastic facelift to Ikea’s Malm Dresser by http://www.mydiyhabits.com
So if your home needs a “poof” moment and it’s not in the wallet to do a renovation or buying spree, just look around, sell a few things, paint, add knobs, add a new door lever. Put on that lip gloss already!! If you need sourcing info on knobs, pulls, levers…just reach out!
