This is my first post. Welcome to the home of Overzealous Design.
We are five in my family and with work-schedules, school and then after-school activities it’s hard to find time to organize. From time to time I will provide you with decor ideas that help pull it all together. I feel coming home and finding clarity helps set the tone for zen and therefore enjoying what is important. Each-other. Finding a place for everything is heaven to me because if you know where you placed it, not only will you always be able to find it, but your home will have order and that too makes getting out the door easier when you are in a rush to get somewhere.
My first post comments on how your life at home starts as you enter it’s threshold and so my blog too starts here at the entry.
Below is a simple entry bench in my home where we sit and remove shoes upon returning home. Everyone should have either an entry bench or a seating space upon entering their home. Entering ones home should be a glorious thing, either simply because you are coming home from a hard working day or just looking forward to being greeted by loved ones or in the case of J.F. Sebastian, character from the movie Blade Runner, greeted as he gets home, by his astonishingly alive and real-looking toys . “Home again, Home again, jigety, jig” chirp his little muchkins. My tribe greet me quite differently. See video clip Here for a little chuckle.
Here Under the bench I’ve placed three black canvas bins from Ikea for storage of shoes and even books to return to the library. Above it two sets of Eames Coat Racks to hang jackets, schoolbags, etcetera helps to keep clutter off the floor. Having a place to put these things immediately upon entering one’s home is essential. The bench I sourced through Amazon called the Gridiron Stainless Steel Bench.
Here are some more examples of home entries that I love both from an exterior welcoming standpoint and interior. First one a traditional looking home a collaboration of Ryan Ford and Texas Construction Company, that takes on a modern appeal starting with the row of simple trees, flush white siding, modern windows, a modern front door and a carport that is incorporated into the mouth of the house. I love the blend! The house is white, but not stark. It invites you to enter.
Please share your thoughts and ideas and please ask questions if you like.
